Cycling for a playground for people with Dementia or Huntington Disease

I am going to cycle from Netherlands to Portugal in August and fundraise for the Nursing Home Topaz Overduin in Katwijk as they are collecting money for a playground “beweegtuin” to be used by a group of 190 residents with disabilities, of which 70 with Huntington disease and 120 with dementia or geriatrics.

This “beweegtuin” is specifically designed for this group of patients featuring low-impact exercise equipment to promote flexibility, balance and coordination. Another benefit of this playground is that it serves as a community gathering spot, combatting the isolation and loneliness some feel as Huntington disease, Alzheimer and Geriatrics can be experienced as intimidating for relatives.

In my opinion this ‘beweegtuin’ is one of the best medications for people which are not only burdened with a terrible disease but also have an extreme high rate of loneliness. The “generatietuin” will offer a safe environment outside where residents of the nursing home can exercise and engage with their relatives and others.
