Warmshowers Forums Disabled

Dear Warmshowers Community, we know this is a time of concern for everyone around the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  In an effort to streamline communication and better address the current needs of our community in a timely manner, we are temporarily disabling the forums and directing everyone to the Warmshowers Facebook Group. This will allow the Warmshowers Community a centralized place for comments, questions, and concerns related to touring and hosting. As always, we ask that you follow our community guidelines when posting.

Being able to find a certain member's posting history would be very helpful

I don´t think this is possible to do right now (or I haven´t found a way to do it yet) but I´d like to find a member´s posting history with the same ease I can see his/her feedback.

Why? Because there´s a very reasonable amount of "concern" about who you are inviting to your house, or whose house are you sleeping in, and the profiles can only give a certain amount of real info about that person. However, if that person is active on the forums, and you can see their views on a variety of topics, you definitely have a much better understanding about the "real" person behind that profile.

Ultimately, we all want to have a positive interaction with our hosts/guests, and reading each other´s posts is just another tool to maximize our compatibility and "guarantee" we´ll be having a nice evening, or conversely, an equally helpful tool to discard people who we suspect we may not feel entirely comfortable with, in spite of how their profile reads.

It also has a very interesting additional advantage, which is the fact that an active member on the forums is far more likely to be a more active member overall, something we can use as an additional "passive filter" to find individuals who are actually willing to help, so to speak.

Cheers.

Possible, but no longer obvious on profile

It is actually possible, and used to be obvious, but only a very small part of our membership participates in the forums, so it's not probably as important as feedback.

You can access it though like this, yours is

(user/UID/track)

Nice Randy, I didn´t even

Nice Randy, I didn´t even know it was possible to do it this way.

In any event, my point was that no matter how small the percentage of people posting on the forums, if I happen to stumble upon someone who actually is, I rather have an easy way to find it, other than this somewhat cumbersome way to do it. If this particular feature is already implemented, and it *can* be helpful from time to time, I guess there must be a reason you have it "hidden", but I don´t understand what can it be.

Cheers.

Simplicity is important

Most people aren't as sophisticated as you are, and the more different features we expose on the site, the more confused they get. So this particular one didn't seem to get much use (even though it's a standard Drupal feature), and there wasn't a good place for it in a redesign a couple of years ago, so it just got dropped. Maybe we'll bring it back! (You're the first person to mention it being missing in 3 years I think. That's not authoritative evidence, but nobody complained.)

Good to know that I´m

Good to know that I´m "sophisticated"... ;)

Anyway, I wasn´t trying to "complain", but just to suggest an additional feature that I do happen to find both useful and straightforward ("Feedback" tab + "Posting history"/ "Forum activity" tab is something "complex"?).

Not that important to me any more, though, now that I know there´s a walkaround in place, but some other users who don´t participate in the forums may never ever find about it, thus missing some relevant info that is already available for them to get, if they please.

Anyway, I appreciate the clarification, thanks Randy.

Hi Randy
Where do I find the UID?

Thanks Karin

WS Member @wsadmin@'s picture
In user URL or links

Sorry, that's a good question.

In newer users it's in the URL, like https://www.warmshowers.org/user/UID (numeric)

But older users have a friendly URL. For those, you can look at links like the Feedback tab. You will see there something like https://www.warmshowers.org/user/UID/feedback, where the UID is numeric.

Randy, I just realized the workaround doesn´t seem to be working all too well.

Whenever I click the link above, the system keeps missing at least one of the threads I´ve participated in, a couple of hours ago (and I can´t remember if it´s missing any more).

It´s this one:

Hi Javier - Since it's not

Hi Javier - Since it's not something that's promoted or generally made available, and since we're in the process of a full upgrade of the system, it doesn't make any sense to chase after this. I hope the "track" URL helps you when looking at prospective guests or hosts.

No worries Randy, it

No worries Randy, it certainly does help.

Hello Mr Garcia,
When was the last time you met a bicycle tourist you couldn't get along with?
I am someone who does not share your concern about who's home you may stay at, or who is staying at your home.

one person's opinion, Gerhardt

That's an excellent idea

That's an excellent idea Andario. I used to provide a link from my own Profile to my own Posts, to allow just what you suggest, for very similar reasons !

Not sure where you clicked,

Not sure where you clicked, but you just have to add "Track" at the end of your ID, as Randy, explained, and it "mostly" works (It still misses a couple of posts here and there).

P.S. 18 years on site?? Man, oh man, I didn´t even know WS was that "old"...
